Syracuse provides Jayla Thornton to MEAC Participant of the Yr

Syracuse added the transfer of Jayla Thornton for the 2021-22 basketball season. Thornton spent the last four years at Howard University. The 5-foot-10 guard was named Player of the Year for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and is the league's 3 point scorer.

Thornton averaged 14 points per game for the bison in the 2020-21 season. In her four years at Howard, Thornton appeared in 106 games and posted 78 starts, including starting every game in the last two seasons. Thornton holds the MEAC record for 3-handers at 275 during her four-year career with bison. She made the top 97 career three in her sophomore year, shooting 37 percent from downtown that season. Thornton scored 12 double-digit goals and accumulated more than 20 points five times, including a season high of 29 points in a win over Richmond on December 22, 2020.
