Bettor wagered $eight.6K to win $eight.60 for Clemson win over Syracuse – Sports activities Grind Leisure

While there are no sure bets in college football — on paper at least — picking Clemson to beat an ACC opponent is the closest thing to guaranteed money this sport provides.

The Tigers have won 27 straight games against ACC competition after their 47-21 victory over Syracuse on Saturday, leaving the hapless Orange 1-5 on the season. That win included, Clemson has beaten those opponents by an average of 32.6 points per game.

Even so, one bettor probably could have found a more lucrative wager than the one he made on the Tigers: $8,600 to win $8.60 for an outright win over Syracuse.

FanDuel on Friday confirmed to ESPN that one bettor had placed that wager on Clemson, which the sportsbook listed as -1,000,000 favorites. That means the bettor won $1 for every $1,000 they bet.

Clemson has been so dominant this season — and Syracuse so abysmal — that most U.S. sportsbooks didn’t bother to list a money line for the game.

But FanDuel did, likely to draw bettors who hoped the Orange could pull off the upset of the season and provide a huge payoff. Per the sportsbook, three times as many people placed money-line bets on the Orange compared to Clemson as of Friday afternoon. The largest of those was a $50 bet at 40-1 odds. Because of that one bettor’s absurd wager, however, the Tigers drew 92 percent of the money.

“Obviously, the probability of Clemson winning the game is huge, but people want to have a bet on what would be one of the greatest upsets in college football,” John Sheeran, FanDuel’s sportsbook director, told ESPN.

Jokes on them: Nobody won who placed a money-line bet on Syracuse. But one shrewd bettor came away with $8.60 in easy cash.
