American Excessive seeks actors, together with ‘teen sorts,’ for brand spanking new film filming in Syracuse – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — American High is seeking more actors, including “teen types,” for its eighth movie filming in the Syracuse area.

The Liverpool-based production company and HBG Casting are seeking a variety of specific and general roles for the next Hulu original film, “Plan B,” which starts shooting Monday. Specific casting includes actors 18 or over who can resemble a high school student, and an “experienced stand-in” for a female 5′6″ to 5′8,″ Latina, between 18 and 40 years of age.

All actors must be 18 years old or older due to the current filming schedule, which will require some overnights Monday to Friday.

“Please apply if you want to have fun, connect with film folks in your area, get paid, have a flexible schedule, and can commit to work! These will be full days on set,” the casting call said.

For additional casting opportunities with “Plan B,” join the HBG Casting database at hbgcasting.com.

“Plan B” is a comedy that follows a straight-laced high school student and her slacker best friend who, after a regrettable first sexual encounter, have 24 hours to find a morning-after pill in America’s heartland.

“Dead to Me” actress Natalie Morales will make her solo feature directorial debut with the movie. The cast has not been announced, but Morales may have a role as she’s previously directed and starred in episodes HBO’s “Room 104” from Jay and Mark Duplass. Her credits also include “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” “Stuber,” “Santa Clarita Diet,” “Parks and Recreation,” “90210” and “The Newsroom.”

The screenplay is written by Prathi Srinivasan and Joshua Levy, known for “iZombie” and “Bollyweird.”

Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Dina Hillier of Counterbalance Entertainment will produce the film, along with Jeremy Garelick, Will Phelps, Ryan Bennett of American High, Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment, and Matt Lottman. Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald created the “Karate Kid” sequel series “Cobra Kai”; Hurwitz and Schlossberg also co-wrote the “Harold & Kumar” films.

“Plan B” was originally scheduled to start March 16, but was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. New York state guidelines for filming TV shows and movies amid Covid-19 include requiring face masks (with exceptions for actors during performances), limiting cast and crew to 50% capacity in indoor locations, holding auditions and casting calls virtually, and limiting scenes with close contact (e.g. fighting, dancing) or large crowds.

Filming is expected to take place from early October to mid-November.

Founded by Garelick in 2017, American High has released five films (“The Binge,” “Holly Slept Over,” “Banana Split,” “Big Time Adolescence,” and “Looks That Kill”) this year. All were shot in Central New York at locations like Syracuse Studios (the former A.V. Zogg Middle School in Liverpool) and the Greater Syracuse Soundstage in DeWitt.
